Springdale Spring

Spingdale SpringYou would need to get out of your car and walk toward Loon Lake on the railroad line that goes through Springdale in order to find this spot.  But since it gave Springdale its name, it has some importance.  The concrete foundation to the left of the tracks in this picture is what is left of a water tower used by Corbin's railroad when it came through the area.  It was reputed to be very good water, though the piping that is now visible went down to the creek.

In the local history, The Wets and Drys of Springdale, by Rose M. Brown she explains that the area was originally platted as Squire City by Chas O. Squire but shortly after that Thomas D Scofield platted an area across the railroad to the east as Springdale.  Town councils formed for each of these areas.  The Springdale Council became known as the "Wets" and the Squire City Council became known as the "Drys."   The postmaster general decided to just have one post office named Springdale for the both of them.
