Rice Washington
Rice The town of Rice was established in 1883 on land

chosen by William and Martha Overman. The first postmaster was William Rice. He owned 120 acres purchased from an Indian named Nicolo. In 1909 the community had a general store and a Presbyterian Church. Daily mail came on a stage from Spokane and news by telephone. The population was 60. The town has not changed tremendously over the years although there was a destructive fire in 1950 after which some of the buildings were restored.
You can compare the view of the William Rice house from today with this old pictures showing the first post office nearby.
