Old Kettle Falls Park

The US Park Service facilities at Old Kettle Falls are some of the most extensive on the whole of the Lake Roosevelt Recreation Area. They include this amphitheater where presentations are held regularly. It is part of a 3 loop camping area. Locust Grove is a group camping area right in the middle of the former town of Kettle Falls. You can learn about the Park Service facilities at
The LARO Website.
You can read a longer description of the history of
Old Kettle Falls on this website.

One of the most popular attractions in the park is this marina. You can also rent
houseboats that depart from the marina.

This sign in Locust Grove tells some of the story of how the town of Kettle Falls was moved from this location by the river to the present townsite, which was first established as Meyers Falls. Notice the concrete steps behind this sign. They were once used by passengers on the stage and bus lines to step on to or off of the stage. The Monroe Hotel stood on the other side of the steps at this corner.

These are the grounds of the park's swimming area. They are also used for large gatherings and have excellent restroom facilities. The swimming area is best used early in the season because it warms quickly in the spring. It is dependent however on the level of the lake which goes down later in the summer making the water unsuitable for swimming. Later in the season, the
Bradbury Beach facility, 7 miles south on Hwy 25 is better for swimming.

The Kettle Falls park also has a boat launch. This gives you good access to the waters north to the Hudson Bay area and south to the mouth of the Colville River. It is a good place to enter the spring
sailing regatta or the
Governor's Cup Walleye Fishing Tournament held the third weekend in June each year.
