Louther Meyer House

Louther Meyer House  Louther Meyers moved to the Kettle Falls area in 1862, tried his hand at Louther Meyer mining but after two years decided to concentrate his efforts in developing water power rights that he had purchased from the departing Hudson Bay Company at what became known as Meyers Falls.  After Louther Meyer had developed the flour mill, saw mill, hydro-electric plant and brick factory at Meyers Falls, founded the city of Meyers Falls (Present Day Kettle Falls) and platted several subdivisions in Colville, he was a very wealthy man.  The family moved from a residence near Meyers Falls to this house between Meyers Falls and Colville on 1200 acres.
Just up the hill between this site and the previous Hole In the Rock site, lived a contemporary of Louther Meyers, William Hamblin Oakes.  Mr Oakes was a very distinguished early settler in his own right.  His former lands, Belleview Farm, overlooked the Colville Valley.  The two men did not get along well.  We are privileged to have a biography of Mr Oaks and several pictures of his estate, including two taken from the same spot over 100 years apart.  They can be seen on the William Oakes History page.
