Hunters Waterworks

This spot is the last one on the

River Routes Tour. It is a little off the beaten path. You need to turn north off the Springdale-Hunters Road onto Lessig Road to get here. The landmark gate with the big "W" on each post is the entrance to what is now private ground. It once led to a water impoundment that that fed the Hunters water system. As such it was off-limits for swimming, fishing etc. which went on nevertheless. Just to the east is an abandoned turn-of-the-century house.
Further up Lessig Road and up a fairly bad dirt road is the site of the Cleveland Mine, a big producer in the area.
