Gifford Ferry
There have been ferries across the Columbia for over 100 years.

The Gifford Ferry is a free Ferry operated by the Washington State Department of Transportation and the Colville Confederated Tribes. It crosses the lake every 15 minutes from 6 AM to 11 PM. It leaves from the East side on the quarter hour (10:15, 10:45 etc) and from the West side on the half hour (10 AM, 10:30 etc.)
You can learn a great deal of history about the ferry from
History Link.
The ferry began crossing at the current location in 1939-40 as waters behind Grand Coulee Dam flooded the original ports in Gifford and Inchelium. Taking the ferry is a fun alternative to continuing this loop over the Springdale-Hunters road. You can drive north on the Inchelium Highway to the bridge at Kettle Falls and be back at the beginning of the tour in less than an hour.
